PAST IMPERFECT?

Do you think God was an astronaut? No, I don't either. But have you ever wondered about our origins? If you're curious, like me, then probably quite often. But what is the answer? And why aren't our origins clearer, why isn't there more substantial evidence of our past? I don't mean just the last 2,000 years, but further back. 5,000? 10,000? or even 50,000 years. If you speak to a archeologist he/she will say there's plenty of evidence of past civilizations. BUT, the evidence isn't consistent and it raises more questions than it answers. If you notice all these different people who dig into the earth's past never seem to get together and pool all their knowledge, it's as if they've all got a bit of the jig-saw and none of them seem to want to put the bits together to see if any of the pieces fit. It was only this month (August 1999), that I watched a programme on TV, I don't recall which channel, about changing weather patterns concerning global warming, which is now an accepted fact. The person involved had two areas of research, a) Study of compacted snow and ice from the Arctic Circle and b) Study of the North Atlantic currents etc and it wasn't until recently that he put the two sets of research results together and found that they were related and provided him with a much larger, more informative picture than the two small ones he had previously.

I have read this year a book by Graham Hancock called "Fingerprints of the Gods...A Search for the Beginning and the End". At first I thought it might have been another one of these, "Was God An Astronaut" type tome. But no it was not. The man had researched ancient civilizations in Central and South America, and Egypt, trying to look beyond the accepted facts. Putting together similarities in the ancient history of these peoples and ask why and how. In the case of the Mayans of Central America, how they came to be in possession of such accurate astrological charts and calendars. When their own domestic technology was so basic.

The ancient Egyptians too, astrological and mathematical knowledge, writing and the building of enormous structures, (Pyramids) at a time when there was no trace of the development of such knowledge. Where are the tools that they used to shape the precise blocks, which even today's extensive technological know-how cannot even design? The machinery to even move them a few feet let alone kilometres? And, exactly what was the Great Pyramid built for? Because it certainly is NOT a tomb!!

The answers are even deeper in the past than the accepted dating of these artifacts. People must pool their accumulated knowledge and do it with open minds because the answers are there staring us in the face and we are just not seeing them. Remember the old saying? None so blind as those who cannot see.

Well it's time we did see, before it's too late.
